IPS (Retd); former DG, ITBP & NDRF; Chairman, Haryana Public Service Commission

A 1983-batch Indian Police Service officer of the West Bengal cadre, Ranjit Kumar Pachnanda held prestigious positions across almost all central police organisations in the country. He served as Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, and in senior roles in the CISF, CRPF, BSF, SPG and CBI.

After retirement he was appointed Security Adviser to the Chief Minister of Assam with Minister of State rank, and in July 2019 took over as Chairman of the Haryana Public Service Commission, the first IPS officer to head that constitutional body. He led the Indian delegation at the UN Chiefs of Police Summit in New York in June 2018.

An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, he earned his law degree from Punjab University with a gold medal for standing first. His honours include the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2007) and the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service (1999), and he authored the book Terrorism and Response to Terrorist Threat (2001).
