A few months back, the Supreme Court issued orders that in view of the requirement of gender equality the women will also be entitled to join the Indian Army through regular National Defence Academy examination held by the Union Public Services Commission. The Supreme Court judgment broke the thick glass ceiling of the mindset about problems likely to be posed by the entry of women into the regular armed forces. The Supreme court also termed it as unfounded prejudice. The present policy of the government was termed a policy of gender discrimination.
